Stoke 2-0 Everton
The first game of the year. A fresh start to the 2nd half of the season. The strikers need to start clicking and start scoring. Moyes has brought back Saha in place of Rodwell and he'd better start letting his feet do the talking. But it all went downhill.
Everton made their first quick break as early as the 4th minute. Good forward running by Saha. Stoke also had a route one try on goal in the 9th minute. Wide.
Everton goes behind in the 22nd minute. It's this type of goal that Everton is short of. Stoke 1-0 Everton.
Timmy had a free header in the 26th minute but the ball just flew wide of the goal post. Very dangerous challenge by Stoke's goalkeeper on Saha. That was a high tackle. Free kick but nothing came out of it.
Everton's fraility in front of goal is showing again. They have to be more ruthless! Bring in Anichebe. Even though he may be leaving, he can still contribute a goal or two. Arteta is also not his usual self. Not showing much creativity. Pienaar has also got to be strong on his feet. He seemed to be falling over the ball with every touch.
Pienaar running with the ball in the 46th minute. A neat one two with Saha but the ball was deflected wide by the defender.
Everton goes into the half trailing by a goal. Sigh!
The entire game is going beserk with the referee and linesmen giving all the wrong calls. Coleman was free on the right channel but was brought down by the defender. Free kick. Came to nought.
Moyes needs to make a change. Anichebe will be a good bet. Arteta needs to be taken out! He is off form. Double substitution - Anichebe and Ossie on for Neville and Arteta in the 66th minute.
Everton needs to press for a goal. Somehow Stoke scores from I wonder how. An own goal from Jag. What a freak goal. What nonsense! Stoke 2-0 Everton.
Mercenary players in Everton's rank. How can they be playing happy? Everton is in deep, deep trouble if they don't start winning. They might as well just throw everyone upfield now. Three goals will make no difference. Moyes last throw of the dice. Becks in for Saha in the 79th minute.
Lost cause!
